Broncos QB Tim Tebow has gone 6-1 since becoming Denver's starter, leading the team to a first-place tie atop the AFC West.
But losing to such an unconventional player can make the defeats tough to swallow for opposing defenders.
"You know what, we didn't actually get beat by him running the ball, we got beat by him throwing the ball – which, good thing I didn't bet my paycheck on that one," Vikings DE Jared Allen said Wednesday night on NFL Network's NFL Total Access.
Tebow passed for a season-best 202 yards and two TDs and added a career-high 149.3 passer rating in Sunday's 35-32 win at Minnesota, the Broncos' fifth in a row.
"He's obviously doing great things because he's winning football games, and at the end of the day, that's what we're judged on: wins and losses," said Allen.
"Hats off to him."
Then the gregarious Pro Bowl pass rusher paused before admitting with a laugh: "But still, it just sucks to lose to a guy who's not a throwing quarterback."
Veteran OLB Jason Taylor, whose Dolphins were Tebow's first victims of 2011, praised the Broncos for maximizing Tebow's talents.
"At the end of the day, you have to give credit to Tim and the Denver Broncos. They've done a good job of adjusting their gameplan for their personnel. Some coaches are very hard-headed and want to say, 'This is our scheme, and you have to make it work,' " said Taylor, who watched Tebow lead a last-minute 18-15 win in Miami on Oct. 23. "Tim brings a different dynamic to games.
"At the end of the day, I think Tebow has energized that team and made the team believe a little bit, and they're on a roll, and winning is contagious."
But Allen isn't quite ready to anoint Tebow as a Pro Bowler.
"I gotta say no on that. Pro Bowl, I guess, is the best quarterback. I don't feel like he's the best quarterback in the AFC," said Allen.
"But if it was on motivational winning, he'd go."
